Carved Relief, Slab-Built Mug Workshop
Weekend Workshop with Christina Orthwein
September 19-20 (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
In this hands-on, weekend workshop, you will design, carve, press and build a six sided textured slab built mug.
First day: Slow it all down, design, transfer, carve and press, pull handle.
Second day: Construct mug, Make custom silicone tool to take home, and, if time allows, press an ornament/pendant.
Christina Orthwein is a ceramic artist working from her home studio in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania. With a BFA in ceramics from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, Christina has been a Lecturer of Studio Art at Bryn Athyn College for 26 years.
With detail and precision at the heart of her style, Christina works in figural sculpture, slab-built and wheel-thrown functional ware, porcelain jewelry and low relief tile. Midfire oxidized stoneware and porcelain are her materials of choice.
